Young Carers and Young Adult Carers MK is part of the carers service within Carers Milton Keynes. We work with young people aged 8-25 and who live within Milton Keynes and have a caring role.
The cared for person may be a parent or sibling, or another relative living in the same household. The child or young person does not necessarily have to be providing ‘hands on’ care to be recognised as a young carer. Even if there are services in place and other members of the family helping with the care, the emotional impact and restrictions due to illness or disability can still have an enormous effect on the young carer.
We have a brilliant team of dedicated support workers who tailor their approach to suit the needs of the young person they are working with and tackle anything that rises around their caring role. Some of the services we provide are:
• regular clubs and social activities
• one-to-one support where needed
• someone to talk to who understands
• targeted group work
• information, advice and signposting
• opportunity to meet with other young carers/ young adult carers
• support in schools
